What is "Op-Amp Rolling" and is it safe for my device?
Op-amp rolling is the process of swapping the factory-installed Operational Amplifier (op-amp) chip in your audio gear with a high-performance alternative to customize and improve the sound quality. It is entirely safe, provided your device features a removable DIP-8 socket (plug-and-play) and you insert the new module in the correct orientation.
Why are discrete op-amps premium priced comparing to standard IC chips?
Standard IC chips are mass-produced by the millions on tiny silicon wafers for pennies. Discrete op-amps, on the other hand, are premium, low-volume boutique components. They are meticulously engineered with individual, high-grade transistors and resistors on miniature circuit boards, hand-assembled, and rigorously tested specifically for high-fidelity audio. You are paying for uncompromising audio design, not industrial mass-production.
How do I know if my device is compatible?
Your device must meet two conditions:
- Removable Sockets: The original op-amps must be plugged into sockets (usually 8-pin DIP-8 sockets), not soldered directly to the motherboard.
- Voltage & Channel Specs: You must match the channels—Single (one channel per chip) vs. Dual (two channels per chip). Your device's operating voltage must also fall within the range supported by our discrete op-amps (±8V to ±18V).

Will a discrete op-amp fit inside my device's chassis?
Because discrete op-amps use individual components, they are taller and wider than a standard flat microchip. While they easily fit into most desktop DACs, preamps, and headphone amplifiers, we highly recommend checking the clearance (height) inside your device's casing before purchasing. We list exact dimensions on every product page.
What kind of sound improvement should I expect?
While standard chips sound "flat" or "sterile," upgrading to a discrete op-amp running in Class-A typically yields:
- A Wider Soundstage: Music opens up, allowing you to easily pinpoint where each instrument is placed.
- Controlled, Punchy full bodied bass: Power delivery is instant, giving low frequencies more texture and impact without muddying the midrange.

Do discrete op-amps require a "burn-in" period?
Yes. Because discrete modules utilize high-quality individual capacitors and transistors, they generally require 30 to 50 hours of playback to settle into their optimal thermal and electrical states. You will notice the sound becoming smoother, warmer, and more cohesive after a few days of regular use.
Do I need to be an engineer or know how to solder to install them?
Not at all! If your device has sockets, installation is 100% toolless and solder-free. It is as simple as gently pulling out the old chip with a chip-extractor tool (or plastic tweezers) and pushing the new discrete op-amp into place. Just remember to completely turn off and unplug your equipment before opening it.
Do your opamps come with a warranty?
Yes, all of our discrete opamps come with a 3-year warranty against manufacturing defects. If the unit fails under normal operating conditions within this period, we will repair or replace it at no cost. Damage from incorrect installation (like reverse polarity) is not covered.
